Sustainable Travel and Road Safety (STARS)
Walking to school brings lots of benefits for physical and mental health. We encourage all children to walk, scoot or bike to school and take part in both 'WOW - Active Travel: the year round walk to school challenge and also the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel.
WOW: The year round walk to school challenge!
The STARS Education scheme recognises schools and other educational establishments that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel.
We are proud to be a STARS Platinum award school.
WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably (walk, cycle or scoot) twice a week for a month, they are rewarded with a badge. Holt House and Carterknowle were the first schools in Sheffield to run a successful ‘school streets’ project which brought together members of the community and Sheffield City Council. The pilot involved closing part of a busy road that goes past both schools to vehicles at school drop-off and pick-up times. You can find out more about this great project along with other information from the downloadable documents. |
