Healthy Minds

At Holt House and Carterknowle supporting our children with their mental health and wellbeing is pivotal to our ethos of providing 'a nurturing and a caring community in which every child learns well'. All staff put social and emotional resilience at the heart of our children's health and well-being and recognise its impact on their learning, attainment, behaviour and future employability. As part of our whole school assemblies, we explore a range of mental health and wellbeing themes and events including: National Mental Health Awareness day, Walk to school week, Active Travel and the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing', which include:

    • Connect: Spend time with friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues. You can try joining a club or group of people who share a common interest.
    • Be active: Find an activity that you enjoy, such as walking, swimming, cycling, or playing football. Even small amounts of exercise can improve your mood.
    • Take notice: Make time to appreciate the world around you.
    • Keep learning: Continue to learn and grow.
    • Give: Give to others.

Our Senior Mental Health Lead (Mrs Atherton) and Inclusion Lead (Mrs Mitchell) also provide direction and additional assistance, where needed, to staff to support individual children at Holt House with a range of interventions for individuals and groups to access, where appropriate. These include:

  • Wishes and Feelings sessions
  • Looking Forward Sessions
  • Emotion and feeling card sorting
  • Zones of Regulation
  • Pastoral support from class teachers/ TAs
